RoboCup World Championship 2017German robots impress in Japan
Soccer skills were on display at the RoboCup robotics competition in Japan at the end of July. At the forefront: the robots from the German university teams. They also showed how advanced they are technologically in the industrial, household and rescue disciplines.

... a major topic in the 'RoboCup@Home League', the league for household robots. Here, the teams present approaches on how robots can gradually improve their orientation in their environment with the help of deep learning methods. Two new standard platform leagues were held for the first time. The 'Social Standard Platform League (SSPL)' uses the robot Pepper from Softbank Robotics, while the 'Domestic Standard Platform League (DSPL)' uses the Human Support Robot (HSR) from Toyota (pictured). This is the first time that commercial robots have been involved in the @Home League.
