Exoskeleton made of carbon fiber

German Bionic presents the fourth generation of its intelligent power suit. 'Cray X' is made from ultra-light carbon fibers and can be networked with the IIoT and the smart factory.

The 'Cray X' intelligent power suit combines human intelligence with machine power by supporting or amplifying the wearer's movements, thus reducing the risk of occupational accidents and strain-related illnesses.

The exoskeleton from Augsburg-based manufacturer German Bionics supports workers lifting heavy loads of up to 28 kg by actively reinforcing their movements and thus protecting the lower back from strain. It can be connected to the Industrial Internet of Things and the smart factory via a cloud interface. The flexible robotics-as-a-service pricing model makes 'Cray X' affordable for every company, from craft businesses to DAX-listed corporations.

Carbon fibers are already being used successfully in the aerospace industry and in motor racing. They are harder than aluminum or steel, but weigh only a fraction of the latter. By using this material for the Cray X's support structure, it is more robust than its predecessor and considerably lighter.

Automatic OTA software updates and predictive maintenance ensure maximum availability of the exoskeleton. The power suit can be networked with any smart factory ecosystem via standard APIs, helping to increase productivity as well as the health and safety of employees. This is made possible by the IoT suite for exoskeletons 'German Bionic IO'.

With two high-performance servomotors that compensate for up to 28 kg of weight, 'Cray X' actively supports the lifting of heavy loads - for up to 8 hours at a time with a single, quickly replaceable standard battery.
