Bionic hand for Cobot
Cobots also help small and medium-sized companies with sorting, picking and moving - with the help of cameras, suction cups and gripper systems. Igus has developed a finger gripper that can also perform humanoid tasks.
The 'Rebel' from Igus is a compact and lightweight cobot that provides a cost-effective introduction to robotics and is ideal for assembly tasks, quality inspections and service work. Grippers and suction cups are required to ensure that the robot can actually work. The 'RBTX.com' marketplace offers a wide selection of suitable end effectors from various manufacturers. According to the supplier, the Cobot, which weighs around 8 kg, is often used in humanoid applications. In response to customer requests for a robotic hand that can be connected to the 'Rebel' via plug-and-play, Igus has developed a cost-effective finger gripper. The humanoid hand is compatible with all models of the cobot. It is controlled via DIO at the Tool Center Point, which enables simple integration and flexibility in various applications. According to the manufacturer, the finger gripper can imitate human hand movements: "The Rebel can perform a wide range of simple humanoid tasks and applications with the new low-cost hand. We are thinking of the area of research and development at universities, but it could also conceivably take on tasks in the catering or entertainment industries," says Alexander Mühlens, Head of the Low Cost Automation division at Igus.
All components, including the flange, cables and control unit, come directly from Igus. According to the supplier, high-performance plastics are responsible for the low price: the plain bearings in the joints made from Igus polymers are lubrication-free and enable smooth and precise movements of the individual fingers. The humanoid hand can be controlled via various interfaces, including USB, TTL (5 V) serial and internal scripting.
