High-resolution fiber optic temperature and strain measurement

Polytec has the 'ODiSI 7000' system family in its range for the fiber optic-based measurement of temperature and strain profiles.

The fiber optic interrogator from US manufacturer Luna Innovations, distributed by Polytec, differs from fiber Bragg-based systems due to its high spatial resolution of <1 mm. With measuring distances of up to 50 m, up to 76,000 measuring points are available in a single standard optical fiber. The temperature measuring range extends from -40 to +300 °C; with special fibers, temperatures from the cryogenic range up to approx. +600 °C can be measured. In strain measurement, ±12,000 microstrain is possible. The measurement resolution is 0.1 °C or ±1 microstrain. The system is based on the 'ODiSI 6' series and offers, among other things, flexible expandability to up to eight channels. The readout device is designed for industrial use, has robust plug connectors and is supplied with a 50 m supply cable between the fiber sensor and interrogator. The modular design enables a high-speed option for readout rates of up to 250 Hz.
