German Telekom
United in the direction of digitalization
Telekom's business customer division is underpinning its ambitions in terms of digitalization with a new unit. To this end, the company is also systematically driving forward its cloud portfolio.
As one of the first measures, the new T-Systems CEO Adel Al-Saleh, who has been in office since January 2018, is bundling the customer-specific digital business in a new unit. It comprises 4,800 employees and combines the expertise of three existing units: the management and technology consultancy Detecon, the digital service provider T-Systems Multimedia Solutions and the digitally oriented areas of T-Systems Global Systems Integration. The three units implemented a total of over 4,000 digitalization projects in 2017. According toTelekom, the new unit will create the largest digital provider in Germany to date.
The spectrum ranges from consulting and co-innovation to the development of technical solutions, their complete integration and operation. The special feature: Flexible and agile teams that work together on an interdisciplinary basis are tailored to each user situation. This includes over 700 management consultants and digitalization experts, more than 800 industry-specific consultants and specialists, around 700 digital platform and architecture experts, over 500 DevOps specialists and around 300 data analysts and big data experts.
Deutsche Telekom sees the new digital service provider as the only provider from Germany that can combine cloud, IoT, security and networks such as 5G or NB-IoT with consulting and integration for digital transformation.
The company also announced a strategic partnership with Microsoft to drive forward public cloud services in four areas: SAP applications, managed services (on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365), digital solutions with artificial intelligence (AI) and mixed reality as well as the Internet of Things (IoT).

Lenze Group opens innovation lab
The automation specialist Lenze is bundling its activities in the field of digital solutions and technology innovations in Bremen: It has opened the digital innovation lab 'Dock One' on the premises of its subsidiary Encoway.
Partnership with Microsoft
As a first step, both companies want to intensify their collaboration in the area of IoT: Using Azure as a cloud platform, T-Systems is developing and operating the 'Cloud of Things - built on Microsoft Azure' platform. The solution offers preconfigured IoT services, such as remote monitoring for logistics, after-sales solutions in the automotive sector and track & trace solutions. The open and modular architecture is based on Microsoft Azure IoT services and is designed to ensure efficient customization and flexible expansion of the platform. The functions required to set up an IoT solution, such as device and user management, analysis, event management and configurable dashboards, are directly available. The open architecture enables the integration of additional services, devices and machines, allowing companies to build complete end-to-end solutions easily and efficiently.
SAP certifies Cloud
SAP has also certified the 'Open Telekom Cloud'. This should ensure both the performance of SAP Hana on Deutsche Telekom's public cloud and the seamless integration of the solution into SAP support processes.
Previously, the computing and storage capacities were only available as a public cloud from Deutsche Telekom's data centers in Saxony-Anhalt. The Open Telekom Cloud is now also available as a hybrid solution. This means that companies can also use the cloud resources on dedicated hardware, i.e. hardware reserved exclusively for them. This can be located in Deutsche Telekom data centers, which companies can access via a secure connection. It is also possible to install the necessary servers directly on the user's premises.
