Red Hat
Linux-BS with safety certificate
Red Hat has now received ISO-26262-ASIL-B safety certification for its Linux-based open source in-vehicle operating system.
Red Hat, today announced that the Linux Math Library, a core component of Red Hat's in-vehicle operating system, has received ISO 26262 ASIL-B functional safety certification from Exida, a global leader in functional safety and cybersecurity certification. Red Hat is committed to the continuous and comprehensive safety certification of Linux as a native component of automotive applications and has the industry's largest pool of Linux maintainers and contributors dedicated to this initiative.
Linux and safety are not a contradiction
In collaboration with exida, Red Hat has developed and validated a novel approach to meet the process objectives of many functional safety standards, including ISO 26262, while overcoming the challenges associated with complex, existing open source software such as Linux. The certification demonstrates that the development of the Math Library components, both individually and collectively, meets or exceeds stringent functional safety standards, ensuring high reliability and performance for the automotive industry. The certification of the Math Library is an important milestone that further strengthens confidence in Linux as the future-proof platform of choice for safety-critical automotive applications.
The In-Vehicle Operating System provides a safety-certified Linux-based operating system capable of simultaneously supporting multiple safety and non-safety applications in a single instance. These applications include, for example, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), digital cockpit, infotainment, body control, telematics and AI models.
