New boss Hartung
Steep career path at Bosch
Lively and open: The future Bosch CEO Stefan Hartung is the antithesis of outgoing CEO Volkmar Denner, who is considered to be more reserved and sober.
Dr.-Ing. Stefan Hartung, 55, has headed the technology group's automotive division, the foundation's most important business area, since 2019. In 2020, he achieved sales of 42 billion euros with total Group revenue of 71.5 billion euros.
Hartung studied mechanical engineering at the RWTH in Aachen, where he received his doctorate in 1993. The university is considered one of the elite forges of the German automotive industry. Born in Dortmund, he is married and has two children. He initially worked for the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and the management consultancy McKinsey. The latter is known for its expertise in saving and restructuring. Hartung certainly acquired additional commercial knowledge before starting his career at the foundation company in 2004 - initially as a manager in the domestic appliances division.
He then took care of the power tools and later took over the energy and building technology division, which also included solar technology. The Group did not succeed in restructuring - the division was later discontinued.
Hartung has been a member of the Bosch Board of Management since 2013, when he was one of the youngest managers in the circle of managing directors.
