Siemens submitted over 7,600 inventions and 3,700 patents in fiscal year 2015. Nine particularly resourceful researchers were also involved in this, who the industrial group recently named 'Inventor of the Year 2015'.

In a few years' time, oil and gas facilities on the seabed will be supplied with energy via their own power grids.
Ove Bø (60), who works at Siemens Energy Management in Trondheim, Norway, has developed a special condenser for this purpose. It can withstand the pressure of the water masses (at a depth of 3000 meters there is 300 bar). Bø's concept: if the air surrounding the individual electrical components such as transistors or capacitors in their housings is replaced by oil, the pressure inside the component housings is equalized to that of the surrounding water. The capacitors, which are used at various points in the underwater power system, are also immersed in oil.
