With the Profibus DP Master for FPGAs from Xilinx, Softing is expanding its range of loadable logic with integrated protocol software for industrial communication protocols. The offering complements the family of FPGA-based fieldbus and industrial Ethernet implementations for field devices and controller applications. In addition to the solution for Altera FPGAs, the Profibus master is now also available for Xilinx FPGAs. This allows users to choose the FPGA provider according to their requirements and use the development environment they are familiar with. The complete protocol software is already executable on the processor contained in the IP core. This means that users do not have to perform any porting, but can concentrate directly on application development, which is supported by sample projects on common evaluation hardware. Thanks to the implementation in the FPGA, there is no dependence on the availability of classic communication modules. Instead, the user selects the most suitable FPGA family and size for their product, in which the communication subsystem can then be used unchanged.
