What the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update brings
Microsoft has been distributing the 'Windows 10 Fall Creators Update' since today. Microsoft is focusing primarily on the new 3D features.
The 'Creators Update' was released in spring and now comes the 'Fall Creators Update'. It makes modern technologies such as Mixed Reality and 3D available on Windows 10 PCs and supports the use of Windows Mixed Reality headsets for the first time. It also offers intelligent photo, video and pen functions. However, a compatible PC is required for this,
There are two compatibility classes: Windows Mixed Reality and Windows Mixed Reality Ultra. The Windows Mixed Reality devices are equipped with integrated graphics and display images at a frame rate of 60 fps. The Ultra devices have discrete graphics - e.g. NVidia GTX 960/965M/1050 or higher DX12-capable graphics cards - and have a frame rate of 90 fps. Most games require 90 fps, as only then is the frame rate high enough to display a smooth image even with fast movements of the head.
A VR headset is also required, which can be purchased from around 450 euros. The compatibility of the PC can be tested via an app. This much can already be revealed: Notebooks with integrated graphics must have at least a 7th generation Core i5 (from 7200U) and desktop computers must have a fourth generation Core i5 (from 4590) and one of the graphics cards mentioned. The requirement for a USB 3.0 port is likely to be a particular stumbling block for older PCs.
In addition to the 3D games that can be obtained via the App Store, the update also includes an extensive collection of 3D tools. The traditional Windows application 'Paint' will also be 3D-capable. This means that 3D objects can be created in Windows 10 and integrated into Office files, for example - such as Word documents or PowerPoint presentations.
Intelligent photo and pen functions
With the updated Photos app, users can combine their photos and videos into memories or stories. The visual content can be enriched with music, transitions and personalized 3D effects. Stories can also be told in new ways using digital pen input. The Fall Creators Update further improves pen input. Digital editing of PDF documents is now possible and the new "Windows Find my Pen" function enables users to locate their pen.
The Edge web browser, which also displays PDFs and e-books in epub format, can now finally handle functions that other PDF readers have long been able to do, e.g. displaying a table of contents if the document offers this function. Comments, notes and highlights can now also be added to PDFs and e-books.
