For our Edge & Cloud Control Forum on May 17, 2022, we have been able to attract renowned experts. Representatives from IBM, Siemens, the OPC Foundation and Gaia-X will shed light on developments in data handling for industrial applications - from the edge to the cloud.
The anatomy of an edge application - from theory to practiceEdge computing brings the processing of IoT and machine data as well as the control of distributed systems back to the point of action.Edge computing is essentially a decentralized approach and encompasses a wide range of hardware. The continuum of edge devices ranges from sensors to servers and often complements the cloud. The software world is just as colorful as the hardware world, and we will navigate through this jungle together with the participants.
The presentation will first discuss the advantages, disadvantages and challenges of edge computing and then use an example from automation (IIoT) to work out how an edge computing application can be implemented. Developers will be given the opportunity to get involved themselves - it will be demonstrated how data from sensors and automation can be recorded, stored locally and processed using the open source technologies macchina.io EDGE and the ObjectBox.io Edge database.
