The 'Start-up Competition - Digital Innovations' is entering its second round in 2017: start-ups with creative ideas from the communications and information technology (ICT) sector can now apply. This time, the BMWi is awarding a special Industry 4.0 prize.
One of the main winners of the 'Gründerwettbewerb IKT Innovativ' is the company VMRay. With their software 'VMMInspector', malware such as computer viruses, Trojans or rootkits can be analyzed for their behavior. The system is based on "hardware virtualization", which separates the infected system from the analyzing system. According to the company, such an approach is not yet used in commercial malware analysis. With the new analysis system, even highly specialized malware that has nested deep into the system can be found. In the medium term, there are plans to expand the analysis platform for mobile devices (including smartphones) and to offer a cloud service.
