The classic industrial 19-inch systems are based either on motherboards or slot CPU cards. The latter have the advantage that the CPU can be replaced just as easily as the I/O cards and the systems are ready for use again in a very short time. At embedded world, Portwell is presenting Robo-8113VG2AR, a PICMG 1.3 System Host Board (SHB) that can use the 6th generation of Intel's Core i3 product family and the Xeon E3-1200v5 processor line. The high-end Xeon processors include Intel's Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 and Hyper-Threading for improved performance and processing efficiency.

In addition, Portwell's new slot CPU card offers flexible PCI Express Gen 3 expansion with a choice of one PCIe x16, two PCIe x8 or one PCIe x8 and two PCIe x4 lanes with dedicated processor SKU. The PICMG-1.3-SHB standard is suitable for a wide range of applications: Industrial automation, digital signage, server systems and medical systems to be expanded with PCI/PCIe I/O cards. The slot CPU card supports Intel's C236 and Q170 chipsets to provide up to 32 GB of DDR4 system memory with ECC (optionally without ECC options).

In addition, Robo-8113VG2AR uses an improved, integrated graphics unit for significantly higher 3D performance and Microsoft DirectX 12 support. The processors can support up to three independent displays via DVI-I (VGA and DVI-D) and HDMI up to 4K x 2K. The system host board also provides multiple I/O functions such as 10 x USB 3.0, 2 x USB 2.0, 6 x SATA ports (dual ports via rear panel) and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports. The user-friendly design enables customers to save time and money when installing and maintaining the system. For example, the "Smart COM Port" function allows for easier adjustment of RS232/422/485 modes via the BIOS instead of rigid jumper settings - the Robo-8113VG2AR has a total of four of these Smart COM ports. For industries that already have a large installed base of 19-inch embedded systems, ROBO-8113VG2AR not only provides an easy way to upgrade these systems with the latest Intel processors, but also supports legacy interfaces such as VGA, four PCI expansion options, four serial ports and the widely used PS2 keyboard/mouse interface.
