embedded world 2019 on course for a record

From February 26 to 28, 2019, the doors of the Nuremberg exhibition halls will open for the embedded industry. In addition to record numbers of exhibitors and exhibition space, visitors to embedded world can expect a new 'start-up area' this year.

As the organizer of embedded world, NürnbergMesse is expecting over 1100 exhibitors this year (2018: 1021) and a new record for exhibition space. The special shows are particular highlights of the exhibition: In the 'electronic displays area' in Hall 1, exhibiting companies will present innovations in display technologies. In Hall 3, the exhibitors in the M2M Area will focus on the latest challenges associated with increasing mobility and global networking. Whether security for hardware and software (safety), protection against external attacks or protection against piracy (security) - in the 'safety & security area', visitors can find out how to design attack-proof hardware and software and protect embedded systems against attacks, for example. At the joint stand 'Innovation made in Germany' in Hall 3A, young companies will have the opportunity to present themselves to the specialist public.

New this year is the 'start-up area' in Hall 3A. "Our trade visitors want more fresh ideas from young, innovative companies," says Benedikt Weyerer, Director of embedded world, NürnbergMesse. A panel discussion on the RISC-V instruction architecture will also be celebrating its premiere. The panel discussion in Forum Hall 3A on February 27, 2019 from noon to 1 p.m. will not only discuss the current state of the art, but also the advantages and disadvantages of using such open architectures.

The panel discussion 'Safe for the Future', which is taking place for the fourth time in 2019, is already well established. Under the moderation of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Fromm from Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, this year's panel will discuss how the different requirements of data security and functional safety can be combined and which measures can be used to achieve both goals.

The Student Day, which takes place on the third day of the trade fair, is designed to give students the opportunity to get to know experts and companies in the industry. This year, Dr. Ralf G. Herrtwich, Senior Vice President Automotive at Here Technologies, will speak about the development of navigation systems, which, due to automated driving, increasingly no longer have to be tailored to the driver, but to the vehicle's systems. Once again, more than 1000 university students are expected to attend.

Those interested can use the voucher code (e-code) "ew19web" to secure a free ticket for the trade fair.

Conferences running in parallel

The embedded world Conference and the electronic displays Conference traditionally run parallel to the trade fair. This year's theme of the former is 'Embedded Intelligence' and is divided into ten clusters: Internet of Things, Connected Systems, Embedded OS, Safety & Security, Hardware Engineering, Software & Systems Engineering, Embedded Vision, Autonomous & Intelligent Systems, Embedded GUI & HMI and System-on-Chip. The highlights of the embedded world Conference 2019 are the two keynotes: Jim Tung from MathWorks will speak on the first day about 'Developing Game-Changing Embedded Intelligence'. In particular, he will discuss how algorithmic expertise and domain-specific knowledge need to be brought together. Jean-Marc Chery, President and CEO of STMicroelectronics since May 2018, will give a keynote speech on the second day of the conference on the role that embedded systems will continue to play in the field, as not all data will be pushed into the cloud.

Developers, scientists and users can find out about the latest display technologies at the 'electronic displays Conference' on February 27 and 28, 2019.

The 17th edition of embedded world set new records in terms of exhibitors and exhibition space. At around 31,000, there were slightly fewer visitors than in 2018 - but this is the second-best visitor result in the event's history. The hype topic of...
