BMWi - New edition of the start-up competition 'IKT Innovativ'
At Cebit 2016, the BMWi gave the go-ahead for the 'Start-up Competition - Digital Innovations'. It is the successor to the 'IKT Innovativ' start-up competition and aims to be even more sensitive to smart start-up ideas with a new selection procedure.
The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) wants to give young start-ups a helping hand - with the 'Digital Innovations' competition, it is supporting start-ups whose ideas are based on modern information and communication technologies (ICT). As with its predecessor - the 'IKT Innovativ' competition - the competition awards prize money as well as individual coaching and support in setting up a company to the brains behind particularly clever business ideas.
Unlike its predecessor 'IKT Innovativ', the new competition model divides each competition round into two phases: In the first, the submitted idea sketches are evaluated. All participants receive a written assessment of their start-up idea with regard to strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and risks. In the second phase, the teams with the best concepts are given the opportunity to use the feedback and further refine their idea outline. This procedure is intended to ensure that "truly innovative ideas have a chance, even if some areas such as marketing and sales, the implementation concept or financial planning initially still have weaknesses," explains Wolfram Groß, project manager of the 'Digital Innovations Start-up Competition'.
Two rounds of the competition are planned each year, in which the BMWi will award prizes for up to six main ideas and up to 15 additional start-up ideas. The BMWi also plans to award special prizes on topics that are currently on the digital agenda. Over 600,000 euros are available per competition year to give young innovative technology companies a jump start. The first round of applications starts in July 2016.
