The 'Visible Things' reference platform is designed to help developers implement edge-to-enterprise IoT projects. With its help, intelligent sensors, actuators and embedded systems can be linked directly to cloud applications and company software via gateways or LPWAN (Low-Power Wide-Area Network).

"With Visible Things, we are one of the first distributors on the market with a flexible edge-to-enterprise solution that enables quick and easy development of IoT applications," explained John Jones, Director Innovation at Avnet Memec - Silica. To open up the reference platform to as many application areas as possible, there are numerous sensors on the board: temperature, pressure, humidity, acceleration, microphone and ambient light. Additional sensors can be connected via Bluetooth Smart and Sigfox. Conversely, the board can also act as an actuator and control a motor, switch or valve. A Cortex-M0 controller running 'UbiquiOS' as a gateway operating system forwards the sensor data to a cloud service via WiFi or 3G/4G. For this purpose, Silica cooperates with the software company Spica Technologies, which provides a framework called 'DevicePoint' that stores, analyzes and displays the data in the cloud and forwards it to company applications.
