OPC Foundation and IDSA
OPC UA connects devices with international data rooms
The OPC Foundation and the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) are working together to improve interoperability and data governance in the automation industry.
The aim of the cooperation is to connect the OPC UA ecosystem with international data spaces to enable secure and controlled data exchange.
The OPC Foundation connects the largest ecosystem for semantic interoperability in the automation world through OPC UA with over 150 semantic domain standards. This comprehensive framework ensures seamless communication and integration between different automation systems, promoting a better connected and more efficient industrial environment. The IDSA complements this approach with a governance structure that regulates who can access data and under what conditions. This ensures secure and controlled data exchange.
"By deepening our cooperation, OPC Foundation and IDSA aim to drive further advancements in data sharing, promoting meaningful change and facilitating a more connected and trustworthy digital landscape," said Lars Nagel, CEO of IDSA. Stefan Hoppe, President and CEO of the OPC Foundation, emphasizes: "Connecting the largest ecosystem of industrial automation to new concepts like data spaces and provides the industry a booster for the deployment of the new concepts. With OPC UA being widely adopted and available in modern and legacy factories and plants, we are proud to provide and help to connect all those assets to IT systems."
This collaboration allows companies to seamlessly integrate OPC UA and Data Spaces into their existing architectures. This makes it easier to use and manage the data collected and provided.
Interested parties have the opportunity to find out more about this cooperation at Hannover Messe 2025. On April 2, 2025, the "OPC Foundation Cloud Initiative" conference will take place from 13:00 to 15:00 in the Hannover Messe Convention Center, Room 3A. Directly afterwards, IDSA is organizing the event "Data Spaces for Industry" together with the VDMA from 3:00 to 5:30 p.m. in the Convention Center Room Berlin.
