NetModule joins LoRa Alliance

NetModule AG has now joined the LoRa Alliance as an Adopter Member. The non-profit organization LoRa Alliance aims to standardize low power wide area networks and thus advance IoT and machine-to-machine communication.

"LoRa could steal a march on mobile phone providers for simple applications," says Jürgen Kern, Managing Director of Netmodule.

LoRaWAN is a network specification for long-range wireless signal transmission (up to 15 km with a clear view of the transmitter) with low energy consumption.

As a member of the LoRa Alliance, NetModule cooperates with other members in the further development of the technology, thus helping to open up the Internet of Things (IoT). "The Alliance provides a good basis for collaboration with other companies to advance LoRa technology and simplified IoT designs," says Jürgen Kern, CEO of NetModule AG. In his opinion, the introduction of LoRA in this country is still somewhat sluggish. In Switzerland, where Swisscom is actively promoting the technology, the whole development is more dynamic.

NetModule is presenting the functional model of a LoRaWAN gateway as the first result of its accession. Its special features include extremely low power consumption and usability in point-to-point or point-to-multipoint applications that do not require any infrastructure. Target applications are telemetry, condition monitoring, object tracing and smart metering as well as applications in which small amounts of data are transmitted wirelessly over long distances in an energy-efficient manner.
