The digital transformation is creating a special boom in the global mechanical engineering industry - this is the conclusion of the 'Industrial Goods Study 2018'. However, machine and plant manufacturers have some catching up to do when it comes to digitalizing their manufacturing processes.

"The sideways trend in the global mechanical engineering industry is over," comments Manuel Backhaus, Managing Director at AlixPartners in Düsseldorf and co-author of the study. "In a good investment climate, many companies can benefit from the start of digitalization and hope for further good earnings, but should still invest heavily in areas that have been neglected so far."
