The digital transformation is creating a special boom in the global mechanical engineering industry - this is the conclusion of the 'Industrial Goods Study 2018'. However, machine and plant manufacturers have some catching up to do when it comes to digitalizing their manufacturing processes.
AlixPartners believes that the future of the mechanical engineering industry is closely linked to digitalization. Increased speed and flexibility with consistently high quality can be achieved primarily through the use of digital technologies. "Accordingly, awareness of the positive effects of digitalization is growing among mechanical engineering companies," says mechanical engineering expert Patrick Widmaier, Director at AlixPartners' Düsseldorf office. "In order to remain successful in the future, however, potential for increasing efficiency must ideally be explored along the entire value chain and leveraged using digital means," says Widmaier.
