I/O modules
Connection to serial interfaces
Turck is expanding the 'TBEN-S' I/O module family with a variant for serial interfaces. The TBEN-S-2COM connects devices with RS232 or RS485 interfaces directly in the field to controllers with the Profinet, Ethernet/IP or Modbus TCP protocols.
This saves users long wiring routes to the control cabinet. Users can freely select the characteristics of the two serial ports between RS232 and RS485. In addition, the module offers four I/Os that can be used as inputs or outputs without configuration. The protection classes IP65, IP67 to IP69K and the extended temperature range of -40 to +70 °C enable use in demanding environments. A client function for Modbus RTU is already integrated in the I/O module. This eliminates the need to independently program access to Modbus in the control environment. Up to 64 Modbus RTU devices per module can be connected to the network. As the module is also able to transmit in Profinet or Ethernet/IP mode via TCP mode, it can transfer report data from sensors and actuators to edge gateways, data hubs or cloud systems in parallel. Systems such as Microsoft Azure, IBM Bluemix and many OPC UA servers also support communication via Modbus TCP, meaning that the I/O module also enables big data applications for predictive maintenance for devices with a serial interface.
