Hilscher at the SPS 2022
A breath of fresh air!
Sebastian Hilscher took over the role of Managing Director from his father Hans-Jürgen Hilscher on January 1, 2020. What has changed in the company since then? And how can the change be seen at the trade fair?
Mr. Hilscher, this year is your first time at SPS as Managing Director. What has changed in your company since your father handed over the reins?
Sebastian Hilscher: We have been undergoing a comprehensive process of change ever since. For example, I now share my responsibilities with a management team that has been complete since July 1 and consists of experienced managers with different backgrounds and expertise. At the same time, we have realigned ourselves for the future and reorganized the Hilscher brand from the ground up. This is already reflected here at the trade fair in the new look of our stand.
Which technological topics are you now focusing on?
Sebastian Hilscher: We invested in cloud technologies at a very early stage and created a solution portfolio for IoT environments with netField. Our bundle ranges from scalable gateway hardware to the secure operating system, preconfigured apps and the self-service portal. With our hybrid cloud and edge model, we want to set the course for smart edge computing. Our platform will serve our customers as a standardized platform for data integration and app management. We will be presenting our latest version of this technology at the trade fair.
Another topic that we are focusing on is IO-Link. Hilscher supplies one of the broadest portfolios of IO-Link solutions on the market, be it IP67 reference designs, IO-Link wireless devices, IO-Link sensor-2-cloud devices or simply IO-Link technology in the form of IO-Link chips and stacks.
Your father was also very involved in the app store that Hilscher developed for the Open Industry 4.0 Alliance. What is the status of this project?
Sebastian Hilscher: Hilscher has indeed made a lot of progress here and we have reached a stage where we can install apps on edge end devices as part of a proof of concept and go through a complete app lifecycle. So the system is already in place. An "Application Management" working group has currently been set up in OI4, which is now defining agnostic and interoperable apps. Publishing and deployment are also being considered and defined. We are in close contact with the IAM group at OWL Maschinenbau in order to share synergies and common approaches. The goal is still a joint OI4 community app store.
