Support and service play an important role in industry. Whether for machine and system maintenance, IT problems or software updates, many companies provide their customers with support.

The coronavirus pandemic has given support a completely different meaning. Companies are facing problems that no one could have foreseen. Everyone is trying to minimize the economic impact on themselves and their employees. Many companies are breaking new ground in overcoming the crisis: they are using their know-how and production capacities to support the general public - and at the same time secure the jobs of their employees.

  • Beckhoff Czech Republic, for example, is helping with the development of the 'CoroVent' ventilator. The company is providing manpower and the necessary components.
  • Siemens in China, together with the company Aucma, developed and manufactured a disinfection robot for the hospitals and health centers in Wuhan within a week.
  • Codesys is making the cloud-based Industry 4.0 platform available to users of 'Codesys Automation Server' free of charge from now until the end of the year.
  • Automotive supplier Dräxelmaier and 3D printing specialist Stratasys are also offering their help for the production of medical equipment.

These are all examples of a new kind of support. Companies are developing products in the shortest possible time and converting entire production lines within a week to support others in the manufacture of medical equipment.
