The transition period for power cables, control cables and communication cables intended for permanent use in structures such as buildings or tunnels ended on July 1, 2017. Since this date, they must be produced or assessed in accordance with the harmonized European standard hEN 50575 and bear a CE mark in accordance with the Construction Products Regulation EU 305/2011. In addition, a so-called declaration of performance must be drawn up on the basis of tests and classifications carried out by an accredited and notified testing institute. An essential component of the CE marking and declaration of performance required by law is the indication of the fire class. Leoni now offers a wide range of fire protection cables with reduced flame propagation and heat development and low release of corrosive gases and smoke in accordance with the Construction Products Regulation. The range includes Betaflam brand power cables, MegaLine, GigaLine and FiberConnect communication cables, FieldLink brand bus cables and numerous customer-specific product solutions. Fire protection cables in accordance with B2ca s1 d1 a1 are intended for buildings with very high safety requirements, such as hospitals. For buildings with high safety requirements, such as schools, fire protection cables of class Cca s1 d1 a1 are to be used. For medium fire risk, cables of class Dca s2 d2 a1 are sufficient.
