With PITmode fusion, Pilz offers a modular system for functionally safe operating mode selection and for controlling access authorization on plant and machinery. It enables operating mode selection and access authorization management that covers safety and security requirements simultaneously. The system consists of the 'PITreader' readout unit with RFID technology and integrated web server as well as a 'Safe Evaluation Unit' (SEU). Thanks to its modular structure, it can be individually integrated into the design of existing control panels so that existing buttons can be used. Authorized employees receive the machine release adapted to their task on a coded RFID transponder key. Up to five safe operating modes can be defined, for example automatic mode, manual intervention under restricted conditions or service mode. The key is inserted at the control panel, the SEU recognizes the specified operating mode and 'PITreader' switches over in a functionally safe manner. The RFID keys are read in and programmed in the 'PITreader'. To increase protection against manipulation, they can be encoded with company-specific programmed 'PITreaders', i.e. the keys are given a password-protected signature.
