08 - Fanuc: More than doubling machine performance

With its new 'FS500i-A CNC' controller generation, Fanuc has opted for a dual engine architecture. This means that path control and HMI are separate. With the core processor, the CNC delivers up to 2.7 times more powerful machine performance than its predecessor model by revising the control architecture.Fanuc particularly emphasizes the energy-saving potential of the CNC in conjunction with the 'αi-D' series drives. Optimized current control can reduce power loss by up to 10%. The high-speed communication of the new encoders leads to higher motor accuracy due to improved concentricity. The new design of the amplifier and choke results in lower power loss compared to previous drive systems. Energy recovery is provided as standard and programming of the PMC (Programmable Machine Control), i.e. the interface between the CNC and the machine tool, is now also possible with IEC-structured text. The 'CNC Design Studio' provides a central development environment for engineering. The 'CNC Guide 2' function can be used to create a digital twin via a virtual control system and thus reproduce the real behavior of a machine with a servo model.
