B&R - Connecting IT and OT:
B&R is now connecting its control systems with Linux-based open source software via 'enhanced cross-over Operation System', or exOS for short. The aim is to overcome the boundaries between the IT and OT worlds so that database systems, AI and machine learning as well as IoT algorithms can be integrated directly into machines. With exOS, Linux software developers now also have the freedom to choose which programming environment they want to use to develop, compile and debug the program code. Once the program has been created, the Linux application can be integrated into the control system via exOS and used with the B&R real-time operating system Automation Runtime. To run exOS, machine builders need an Automation or Panel PC from B&R. Automation Runtime and Linux run on the same device. The Linux application is therefore executed hand in hand with cyclical control applications.
