The CMOS-based GigE and USB 3.0 polarization cameras from Baumer's CX series use the polarization properties of light to enable industrial image processing applications, for example in the quality control of glass, carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) or reflective surfaces. The cameras use the 5 MP GS sensor 'IMX250MZR' from Sony. It has an additional polarization layer at pixel level, consisting of four polarization filters (0, 90, 45 and 135°). This means that one exposure is sufficient to simultaneously capture the degree of polarization and the angle of polarization of the polarized light without changing filters. Thanks to the interaction between the integrated evaluation algorithm and 'Baumer GAPI SDK', only the polarization information is output. The polarization cameras make physical material properties that cannot be detected by the human eye visible and evaluable.
