Katherine Johnson (1918-2020) calculated the trajectories for the Mercury program and the first manned flight to the moon. At the time, Johnson worked under the discriminatory conditions of racial segregation and received no public recognition. Her important contribution to the US space program only became known to the public through her book and the film of the same name "Hidden Figures".
