... is what the students Ann-Kathrin Leiting, David Stork, Konstantin Hoffmann and Dominik Ledere want to achieve. Their prototype 'SmartFaraday' is an intelligent and energy self-sufficient bicycle pedal that can be easily attached to any bicycle model. The 'SmartFaraday' pedal records measurable data on the bike and uploads it to the internet independently and in real time: for example, the power (pedaling force), speed and position of the bike. The rider generates the energy for the measurements by pedaling the pedal himself. The comprehensive Internet connection enables further safety applications such as theft protection and emergency contact in the event of an accident. The team from the Albert-Ludwigs-University of Freiburg convinced the jury of the 'Cosima' competition and won first place, including prize money of 1,000 euros.
