Pepperl+Fuchs was founded in 1945 by Walter Pepperl and Ludwig Fuchs as a repair workshop for radio equipment. As early as 1948, Pepperl+Fuchs expanded its activities to include the manufacture of electronic components, which ultimately led to the development of the first proximity switch and the first transistor amplifier with intrinsically safe circuitry in 1958. Since these humble beginnings, Pepperl+Fuchs has developed into a versatile industrial company and is now one of the leading manufacturers of industrial sensors and intrinsically safe components and technologies for hazardous areas. Today, Pepperl+Fuchs employs around 6,200 people worldwide at various locations in Germany, the USA, Singapore, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Czech Republic. In 2019, the legal form was changed to a stock corporation.
