Valeo buys start-up Gestigon
Valeo has acquired all shares in Gestigon. The German start-up company specializes in the development of 3D image processing software for vehicle interiors.
With the acquisition, Valeo aims to further expand its position in the field of automated driving and at the same time respond to the need for simple, intuitive and efficient human-machine interfaces (HMI) in a world where comprehensive connectivity is becoming increasingly important. With the acquisition, the automotive supplier is able to expand its business activities for passenger comfort and driver assistance, particularly with regard to high-growth technologies such as interior cameras and image processing.
Such technologies are increasingly key enablers in the automotive industry and Gestigon's artificial intelligence-based solutions will be instrumental in advancing Valeo's automated driving strategy. The start-up's software package is fully compatible with all types of gesture and motion detection sensors in vehicles. Building on the French company's existing Driver Monitoring System, which detects whether the driver is distracted or tired, the acquisition will enable the development of a comprehensive range of object and occupant detection functions. In future, the vehicle will also be able to analyze the vehicle environment and adapt to the safety needs of the occupants - for example by activating the airbags.
