Improved 3D matching

With Halcon 13, Mvtec Software offers a range of new technologies. For example, the performance of shape-based matching has been improved.

According to the manufacturer, the release allows the processing step to be accelerated by up to 300% on machines with AVX2-compatible processors. In addition, the speed of all related technologies such as shape-based 3D matching, local and perspective deformable as well as component-based matching is to be increased. In addition, surface-based 3D matching has been further improved: by analyzing edges in the model and in the 3D point cloud, smooth surfaces in particular should be recognized more robustly, allowing the position of the objects to be determined more precisely. This new process is particularly suitable for determining the exact position of crates in 3D space. The announced software release also offers a new method for multi-image reconstruction of 3D objects with surface fusion. The use of image information from several cameras should lead to more robust results than with paired reconstruction methods.
