Surface inspection
Alternative to line scan cameras
Mitsubishi Electric has launched a high-speed version of the contact image sensor (CIS) marketed under the name 'Line Scan Bar'.
The CIS CX models enable a distortion-free image of an object right up to the edge with a resolution of up to 600 dpi. At this maximum resolution, the CIS further development scans surfaces at a speed of up to 138 m per minute. The resolution of 300 dpi enables reliable inspections of up to 450 m per minute; at 150 dpi, over 1100 m per minute can be achieved. To transfer the large data volumes resulting from these speeds, the models have one or two CoaxPress interfaces, depending on the sensor length. The previously available 'CIS AX' and 'MX' variants were equipped with Cameralink interfaces. In contrast to line scan camera systems, contact image sensors are easier to install and are mounted directly above the surface to be inspected at a defined working distance of 12 mm, according to the supplier. LED lighting and optics are already integrated into the housing. The new models are available in widths of 367, 587 and 807 mm. For larger material widths, several sensors arranged next to each other enable seamless image capture across the entire width.
