Eaton is expanding its portfolio for the Smartwire-DT intelligent wiring and communication system with compact IP67 I/O block modules that enable machine and system manufacturers to connect a larger number of sensors and actuators to a Smartwire-DT line. Two sizes enable the connection of a maximum of eight or sixteen sensors or actuators via four or eight M12 connectors. The portfolio includes variants with different features: in addition to pure input or output modules, mixed modules or freely configurable I/O modules are also available. Variants with an additional external power supply supply modules with higher power requirements. In addition to 24 V outputs with 0.5 A, devices with 2 A output current are available so that actuators such as valves can also be controlled directly. If the external power supply fails, the communication connection and the status of the inputs used are maintained, as the power supply for this is guaranteed via the Smartwire-DT line. Detailed diagnostic messages support troubleshooting. In addition to overload and short circuit, the modules report the status of the power supply, overload in the sensor power supply and sensors that are required but not installed to the higher-level control system.
