Electric Vehicle Index
On the market side, Germany is only in 10th place
McKinsey has published its latest Electric Vehicle Index. The management consultancy examines the position of the 14 most important nations for electromobility and how Germany is positioned.
McKinsey has been analyzing the following countries for the Electric Vehicle Index, which has been published since 2010: China, Denmark, Germany, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, South Korea and the USA. Japan, China and Germany lead the ranking of the most important manufacturing countries for electric vehicles. The USA follows in fourth place - the gap to the other production countries South Korea, France and Italy has widened again. On the industry side, the forecast for Germany remains positive: 38% of all e-vehicles produced worldwide in 2020 will be produced by German manufacturers, according to McKinsey. With over 1 million vehicles produced, Germany would therefore be well ahead of the other manufacturing countries China, the USA and Japan. These countries each produce just under 500,000 cars.
However, the market side is more exciting and dynamic: here too, the leading countries Norway, the Netherlands and France are defending the top three positions. However, Denmark and China in particular are developing dynamically and have each been able to make up places. Germany is only in 10th place behind the aforementioned nations as well as the USA, Great Britain, Japan and even Portugal.
