Product and brand piracy
Negative prize 'Plagiarius' starts a new round
The 'Plagiarius' campaign has announced its competition of the same name for the 43rd time. Companies, designers and inventors now have the opportunity to submit their original products and alleged imitations and nominate the "Plagiarist of the Year 2019".
Since 1977, the 'Plagiarius' campaign has been raising public awareness of the business practices of counterfeiters. The trophy for the 'Schmäh-Preis' is a black dwarf with a golden nose - as a symbol of the immense profits that product pirates make at the expense of creatives and the industry.
Before the annually changing jury selects the winners from all the entries, it notifies the alleged plagiarists of their nomination in writing. This gives them the opportunity to make a statement. In addition to general case-related information, these reactions - if used - are also included in the evaluation. From soft, entrepreneurs, designers and inventors are invited to suggest alleged imitators of their product to the jury. The deadline for the 2019 competition round is November 30, 2018.
The following must be submitted to the competition
- the original product
- the alleged plagiarism
- the completed entry form
- the correspondence with the plagiarist
- copies of registered industrial property rights
- any other background information that may be helpful to the jury
The 'Plagiarius 2019' negative award will be presented at a press conference at the 'Ambiente 2019' consumer goods fair. During the trade fair, all submitted originals and plagiarisms will be on display in a prominent position. Afterwards, the award-winning products will be presented to a wide audience at the Plagiarius Museum in Solingen and at traveling exhibitions around the world.
