Integrated measurement technology for condition monitoring

There are new variants of the high-precision motor feedback system 'EDS/EDM35' from Sick. Variants with additional sensors for monitoring vibration behavior and humidity supplement the standard variants.

The EDS/EDM35 product family - with vibration and humidity sensors integrated for the first time in this size and the purely digital Hiperface DSL single-cable technology, according to manufacturer Sick - combines high-precision speed and position measurement in real time. Without additional wiring and installation effort, trends, behavioral patterns and possible anomalies of servo motors and drive trains can be detected and used for condition monitoring and predictive maintenance functions, thus avoiding unplanned machine downtimes.
In addition to the temperature monitoring already implemented in the standard versions, the recording of vibration behavior - as an indicator of possible ball bearing damage or imbalances - and humidity - as an indication of possible leaks in the motor - turns the motor feedback system into a smart early warning system. According to the provider, the values measured in the engine compartment are very accurate. Possible damage to the engine can therefore be detected at an early stage. Status data is reliably recorded and made available to the higher-level control system. The data can be visualized and used for the individual configuration of warning and alarm settings.
