ElectromobilitySiemens equips first Finnish electric ferry

The complete electrotechnical solution for the first battery-powered car ferry in Finland is being supplied by the German automation company Siemens. The electric ferry is due to go into service in the Finnish archipelago of Turku in summer 2017.

In addition to the battery system, the hybrid drive consists of charging and discharging technology and the necessary control electronics. The energy storage system serves as a buffer for unused power from the generator sets. The drive system can be speed-adjusted and also includes an integrated warning and monitoring system.
