ElectromobilitySiemens equips first Finnish electric ferry

The complete electrotechnical solution for the first battery-powered car ferry in Finland is being supplied by the German automation company Siemens. The electric ferry is due to go into service in the Finnish archipelago of Turku in summer 2017.

The Finnish shipping company FinFerries has opted for environmentally friendly shipping technology: it is having Finland's first battery-powered car ferry equipped with a fully integrated electrical and control system from Siemens at the Polish shipyard Crist. The picture shows the current diesel-powered ferry on part of the 1.6-kilometer route from Parainen to Nauvo in the Finnish archipelago of Turku. The new, environmentally friendly ferry is due to start operating on this route from summer 2017.
