Launched in Japan in March 2018, the Sushi Sensor is a compact wireless device with integrated sensing and communication functions designed specifically for monitoring vibration and surface temperatures of equipment components. Yokogawa is now introducing this sensor to the European market. It measures vibration and temperature automatically and uses LoRaWAN, a low power wireless data communication protocol (LPWA). The sensor does not require repeaters and is battery-powered, so no external power supply is required. Due to its compact size and low weight, it can be mounted on all system components. In addition, the sensor supports near-field radio communication (NFC), which enables sensor setting and monitoring of the sensor status via a corresponding app from a smartphone. The data collected by the sensor can be monitored either from a local server on site or a cloud server via a LoRaWAN gateway. Operators and maintenance personnel can monitor the vibration and surface temperature of devices throughout the facility from the local server or from any device in a remote location with access to the cloud server.
