Nexofox / Dunkermotoren

Andrea Gillhuber,

Holistic solutions with IIoT services

Dunkermotoren is taking the step towards becoming a solution provider: The drive specialist is now offering IIoT services under the 'Nexofox' brand. In this interview, Markus Weishaar, Head of IIoT & Services at Dunkermotoren, explains the background.

With 'Nexofox', Dunkermotoren is transforming itself from a drive manufacturer to a full-service provider. What led to this decision?

Weishaar: At Dunkermotoren, we recognized early on the relevance of the Industrial
Internet of Things (IIoT) for our products and markets. When we got into the topic, we also quickly realized that
realization that customer projects in this field require a great deal of consultation and that the resulting products are generally digital services. For this reason, the aforementioned change is essential for us in order to be a strong partner for our customers in the IIoT. The increasing number of inquiries from the market and the response to our strategy confirm that we have made the right decision here.

What specific IIoT services do you offer?

Weishaar: We currently offer our customers complete design and implementation services for programming our drives with 'MotionCode' or integrating our motors into edge and cloud environments. We also already offer software solutions for condition monitoring of our motors. But this is just the beginning: we are actively and intensively working on being able to offer predictive maintenance as a service, and a smartphone app as a support tool for our customers' service technicians is also already in the pipeline.

Do you see yourself more as a service provider in the future?

Weishaar: Yes and no. Of course, we see ourselves more and more as a service provider, but primarily as a complement to our products, which will remain our core business. We see ourselves as a hybrid product and service provider in order to be able to offer the best possible package and user experience.

What role do the companies EGS Automation and MAE play in connection with Nexofox?

Weishaar: The IIoT solutions from Nexofox are of course not only developed and used exclusively for Dunkermotoren, but also for the products from EGS Automation and MAE, as the same requirements have to be mastered there and synergies can be used. For example, IIoT integrations from Nexofox for the motors can be implemented and validated directly in EGS Automation systems, while the solution can also be used for IIoT connections and the provision of digital services for the system itself.

What specifically changes for the customer or user?

Weishaar : In terms of our motors and drives, as already mentioned, nothing will change in the first step, except that we will be able to provide our customers with even broader support for their projects. This applies, for example, to their own IIoT projects, where we can support them from the initial idea with advice through to implementation with software solutions from Nexofox. But we can also provide support without IIoT, for example in the implementation of control concepts that do not require a PLC and in which the entire logic is implemented decentrally directly on the motor. This means that we can offer our customers clear added value not only through our drives themselves, but also through Nexofox.
