It is not the age of mechanical and plant engineers that determines the level of their salaries, but their qualifications. This is one of the findings of the new '2016 Salary Study for Specialists and Managers', which has now been published by the VDMA.

The study also reveals that salaries at the same level differ significantly in some cases: In the ranking of department heads, plant managers receive the highest salary (around 130,000 euros on average), heads of accounting and finance are in the middle with just under 100,000 euros and department heads in production planning bring up the rear with around 85,000 euros.
