In the context of Industry 4.0 and the associated digital transformation, Sick is focusing on innovations relating to software-based sensor solutions. With the acquisition of Mobilisis, the company is strengthening its expertise in the field of wireless networking of industrial IoT devices. Mobilisis complements Sick's sensor-based offering with cloud and edge solutions. The aim is to create a seamless connection between sensor data and the cloud platform, which contributes significantly to rapid networking between the worlds of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT).

"Together with our experienced colleagues at Mobilisis, we will be able to offer application-specific digital sensor system solutions and services more quickly," explains Dr. Niels Syassen, member of the Sick Management Board. According to the company, a first milestone is to expand the portfolio of digital localization solutions in the context of Industry 4.0 beyond stationary conveyor systems and to implement applications on the store floor, within and between companies. This will enable users to create transparency about the whereabouts of their goods and merchandise as soon as they leave the stationary conveyor systems.

"With Mobilisis, we have already developed the first sensor solutions that close the gap between sensor and IT," adds Dr. Niels Syassen. He talks about joint development projects - including the TDC-E edge gateway product series, SIM2000ST-E, a system controller for track and trace applications, tags for indoor localization and programming for localization solutions.

Mobilisis was founded in 2005 in Varaždin (Croatia). The company has a total of 78 employees and generates an annual turnover of around EUR 6.1 million (2021). The company develops IT infrastructures for industrial process management, including methods for mobile data acquisition and transmission.
