Process automation grows only slightly

Electrical process automation is only growing slightly. According to the ZVEI, more than 2% is not possible in 2016.

"We anticipate currency-adjusted growth of around 2% in global incoming orders this year," said Nikolaus Krüger, newly elected Chairman of the Measurement Technology and Process Automation division of the ZVEI Automation Association. "The economic environment remains challenging, particularly due to the difficult conditions in the oil and gas market," explained Krüger. The member companies of the specialist area expect growth in 2017 to be as low as in the current year - the development of the oil price is just as unclear as the effects of Brexit and the political and economic developments in the USA.

Nikolaus Krüger, Chief Sales Officer of Endress + Hauser Management AG, was elected Chairman of the Executive Board of the division for a three-year term. The following were confirmed on the Management Board: Stephan Neuburger (Krohne), Dr. Dirk Steinmüller (Knick), Johannes Kalhoff (Phoenix Contact) and Günter Kech (Vega). Eckard Eberle (Siemens) and Carsten O'Beirne (ABB) are new to the Board.

Growth engine Asia

The growth peaks in the process industry are in India and South East Asia. Krüger reported that many companies are also noticing a slight economic recovery in China. EU business, particularly in Southern Europe, is developing well, as is the Middle East. Germany, Northern Europe and Russia are showing a mixed picture. The US business is performing weaker and South America is in crisis.

The pharmaceuticals, water/wastewater and food and beverages sectors are the main growth drivers. Outside Germany, electrical power generation also offers good business opportunities.
