Meinrad Happacher,

Award-winning sensor platform

The Austrian start-up Endiio is presenting a retrofittable sensor technology for drive monitoring at the trade fair - recently awarded a prize by the VDMA.

Also conceivable as a retrofit: Drive monitoring using the Endiio sensor platform.

Endiio's sensor platform forms the basis for drive monitoring, and the technology will be demonstrated on a defective drive at SPS IPC Drives. In addition to a gateway and the Retrofit Box, the solution includes customizable software and sample projects that enable industrial users, plant manufacturers and operators to easily integrate the new technology into their applications and drives. Current sensors, vibration sensors and sensors with Modbus communication can be ported to the platform.

With this solution, each sensor node acts as a router, allowing large, energy-saving and self-configuring mesh networks to be realized and IoT systems to be implemented without great effort and with little hardware, the Austrians promise. The forwarding of commands is ensured via such mesh networks. "In the patented 'wake-up on demand endiio' wireless technology, the sensors are in an energy-saving deep sleep, but can be woken up at any time if required and thus retrieve data in real time," explains Tolgay Ungan, co-founder of Endiio. Thanks to a new, patented wireless technology, the Endiio solution is said to work up to 10,000 times more economically in real-time mode than all conventional communication solutions - such as Bluetooth Low Energy, ZigBee or Wifi.
