What costs did companies incur after a cyber attack? Companies spent the majority on additional employee wages. They also cited significant additional expenses due to missed opportunities for business deals, improvements to IT security, external service providers and the hiring of new employees. Companies spend 79,000 US dollars on training and 85,000 US dollars on external experts - this accounts for 19% of the total loss (see chart 1 in this picture gallery).
