SafetyNews from safety-related automation
With increasing cycle times, machine functions are becoming more and more complex - against this background, the topic of functional safety is becoming increasingly important. Computer&AUTOMATION shows a selection of current products relating to this topic in a picture gallery.

The two-pole semiconductor output module PNOZ m EF 8DI2DOT from the configurable safe small controllers 'PNOZmulti 2' from Pilz ensures safe monitoring of mechanical presses. It has two safety outputs in semiconductor technology, which are used to control press safety valves or other actuators that require two-pole switching. The eight inputs of the module can be configured with an individual filter time to enable trouble-free operation with different input signals. Depending on the application, PL e according to EN ISO 13849-1 or SIL CL 3 according to IEC 62061 is achieved. In conjunction with one of the 'PNOZmulti 2' base units, the semiconductor output module makes it possible to safely monitor the safety functions of an entire press. Certified press modules in the 'PNOZmulti Configurator' software tool simplify use: The configuration of operating modes such as set-up mode, automatic and single stroke, monitoring of a mechanical cam switch unit or non-contact safety devices is just as possible as the run monitor control for monitoring mechanical force transmission for shaft breakage, activation of the press safety valve and stroke release by two-hand control. An independent module program 'mIQ' with fine-grained module-specific settings and 256 additional connection lines is configured in the software tool for each extension module. The user program then consists of a main program and one or more module programs.
