With increasing cycle times, machine functions are becoming more and more complex - against this background, the topic of functional safety is becoming increasingly important. Computer&AUTOMATION shows a selection of current products relating to this topic in a picture gallery.
Codesys Safety for Ethercat Safety Modules from 3S-Smart Software Solutions enables automation engineers to configure safety functions using an Ethercat safety module that is addressed via a Codesys-compatible controller. With the current release, the EL6910 Beckhoff modules and the EK1960 Compact Controller are now also supported in addition to the previous EL6900. These modules enable users to configure safety-relevant operations with analog data directly in Codesys. The data can be read in via 'single channel' input terminals (Twinsafe-SC) or the standard controller, validated in the safety module and processed safely. The result is written to the corresponding safety output terminals. In addition, the EK1960 module contains integrated digital safety inputs and outputs and eliminates the need for external safety I/Os. The project planning of the safety modules with the 'Codesys Development System' and the corresponding extension 'Codesys Safety for Ethercat Safety Modules' has been certified by TÜV Süd.
