As a modular system with a scale drum and separate scanning unit, it offers robustness and accuracy as well as good mounting conditions for use in robots, according to the manufacturer. This includes direct mounting and flexible mounting options as well as large mounting tolerances. In addition, the encoder is suitable for safety-related applications up to SIL 2, category 3 PL d. According to the manufacturer, the encoder - like the ECA 4000 angle encoders from Heidenhain and WMRA from AMO - improves the absolute position accuracy at the tool center point of industrial robots by 70 to 80 %. In addition to the motor feedback, it is mounted as a secondary encoder on each robot axis after the gearbox. Here it records the actual position of each robot joint and takes into account the zero position error and the backlash. The encoder also measures the retroactive forces from the machining process on each axis of the robot arm.
